Spray-Cooled equipment is used on electric arc furnaces; the technology uses water at atmospheric pressure to keep the furnace from melting as well as prevent steam explosions in the case of a water leak. The equipment can also be applied to off-gas ductwork, submerged arc smelter roofs, basic oxygen furnaces, and ladle metallurgy furnaces. Specifically in Arkansas, Spray-Cooled equipment is used at Nucor-Yamato Steel, Nucor Arkansas, Big River Steel (both mills), and Hybar Steel.
